I've been thinking about a system along the following lines:

1C = Natural unbal, but not forcing. May have 5-5 minors.
1D = 12-14 NT or natural unbal. If unbal without a major, then 16+.
1M = 5+ major.
1NT = 15-17
2C = 18-20 NT, or any GF.
2D = 6+D or 5D and 4C. No major. 11-15.
2M = Weak
2NT = 21-23

The idea is the same as 5542 with unbalanced diamonds, but to remove some hands from the nebulous minor opening. It is easier to unload hands from a diamond opening, since 2D can be used. I've also thought of playing 1D as unbal with clubs, but didn't really like the continuations I came up with.

I know the 1C opening is underloaded, but how would you use the space available?

I think I have enough space for almost everything I want after my "NAT or 11-13/17-19/26+ BAL" 1 opening, so I'd be happy to simply remove the balanced hands, try to put the 5D5C hands where some balanced hands used to be (e.g. in the the transfer accept) and leave many bids idle.

But using the partly freed-up transfer accept as Gazzilli (e.g with 3c support or a strong hand) would be an obvious alternative.
