An interesting offshoot of the well known convention I give the article here
as given in the ACBL Encyclopedia of Bridge :-

" A method of asking for aces when 4NT would be a natural bid. Easley Blackwood listed
3 situations in which 4NT would be natural. a)when the partnership has not bid a suit
b)When no suit has been agreed and the 4NT bidder has previously bid NTs c) where no suit has been
agreed and a NT bid immediately preceded 4NT. In each of these situations,Blackwood suggests that
a bid of 4 in the lowest ranking unbid suit should ask for aces with step responses. A
subsequent bid of 5NT would ask for kings in the same way"
It's not a sin to play bridge, but it's a crime if you play it badly(!) ;)
"It is not enough to be a good player, you must also play well"
- Dr Tarrasch(1862-1934)German Chess Grandmaster

Another approach is that a suit bid is a natural and constructive suggestion of an alternative denomination. A suit-jump to the 6-level shows a good 5+ suit.

I think you misread the OP Nigel. Phil is talking about having a call for ordinary Blackwood other than 4NT in auctions where that would be natural (ie Gerber and Super Gerber by another name) rather than about continuations after a natural 4NT call.

Thank you, Zelandakh; and Sorry to miss your point, PhilG007
