K lead, East plays 2. Plan the play.

Additional information after tramticket's two replies.

1. 4 is a bid where most players would assume it showed some tolerance for too.

2. Carding is standard

Two pieces of information would help: Does east's jump imply diamond support (or tolerance)? What are E/W carding agreements?

I am placing west with KQ of diamonds and I think I need west to hold the ace of clubs (west hasn't led a club, so may be some hope there?). Let's also assume that west has one heart honour or the queen of spades to justify the overcall.

It would help if opps opened up the heart suit or opened up the trump suit, so I'm leaving those alone for now. I take the ace of diamonds then leading a club towards the king....

If the 4 jump doesn't imply diamond tolence I am assuming that east has all seven missing clubs (would also explain the lack of a club lead). In this case I take the ace of diamonds and exit with a diamond.

Probably way off base: I think I need a late trump entry to dummy to use the 4th heart or to gain a ruff/sluff so I am going to pretend rho is 2227 or 2137 with a heart honor (and hopefully no heart 9). SO my intention is to win trick 1
and play 2 top trumps and then exit with my dia loser. Hopefully this will make life so tough for lho they cannot save the defense. I take the 2 trumps early because I see no benefit in allowing lho to exit in trumps when I need that suit to break 22 anyway.

So what is West's hand?
Surely East is not going to leap to 4 without 7 cards and if he did it with 6, surely West would lead his singleton?

So no clubs
If he has 5 then he is 4450, but more likely 3460 and East is 1237
If West had 2560 he would have bid Michaels

So we play for West to be
Qxx
K9xx
KQxxxx
-

So take A, to the 9, J losing to West, Q, another ruffed in hand, A dropping East's honour and draw trumps, take two discarding a and lose a

+1 for thinking it through, but technique-wise it's not quite right. West is indeed 3-4-6-0 but with Qxx Q9xx KQxxxx

Declarer played his J at trick 2. West tried a small covered by 10, K and A. Declarer then played J (not covered) but was then able to set up 4th for a discard.

How is nekthen's line any different in effect from what declarer actually did?

Cheers,
mike
