We've all heard the rumor that GIB plays splinter bids. Well, when you make a splinter bid, it seems to explain your bid properly and it doesn't pass. So why is that when GIB holds,

and the auction goes, 1=1=4, it signs off in 4?

If GIB won't even TRY for slam opposite a splinter with THIS hand then why not just remove splinter bids from GIB's repertoire altogether?

GIB is the Walter the Walrus of computer bridge. It makes decisions based on points. It does not know how to evaluate hands based on fit. At least you go plus here. Wait until you make a splinter and it goes to slam with KJxx in the splinter suit. Of course when GIB makes the splinter, you have the opportunity to evaluate based on it, so splinters should be retained.
