Apparently the only way that GIB is ever cooperating with is if he has the ace of hearts? Surely 8 working points should be enough to bid 4N or something.

This is probably not easy to fix but generally splinters should not be considered primarily a cue bidding situation but a "do you have a shitload of wastage here" situation. Perhaps in analogy to Fred's rule on splintering opposite 1NT, one could ask "do you still have a single raise if you ignore your points in diamonds?"

Sorry no link.

And yes I would have got into a terrible slam when I had AQxxx Ax x AKTxx and yes I misbid too (it was indeed a pointless splinter). I reported myself to the authorities.

GIB generally does OK when using Blackwood. Expecting a lot of cooperation in cue bidding/splinter sequences is like expecting meaningful carding by GIB partner when defending. And meaningful carding on defense should be pretty easy since any rules are better than nothing.

In my experience GIB splinters to help human partner, but very seldom makes intelligent use of a splinter made by *it's* partner. A long standing well documented failing and past due for correction.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq
