Are you telling me that 3 goes nine off undoubled? That would require a revoke.

Anyway, I bid 3.

I don't think dbl is that great a choice but I might be wrong.

Pass is perfectly OK.

3NT would be pretty bad as the hand is just too weak and QTx is not a great stopper. Then again, QTx is not an ideal holding a suit contract either so maybe 3NT would be fine if the hand had a queen more or so.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

I think the OP is saying the overcall was 3NT, 9 down. Anyway, like you I don't like my options, but err on the side of 3

Nick was entirely right. I thought that in a borderline case, 3NT might have play, but 4S going off on bad breaks or club ruffs.

I could've gone a few fewer off if I didn't pitch a club on the run of the first 6 diamonds, but life...

I wouldn't feel too bad. Swap the spades and the diamonds and I might have had a go at 3NT too. Also, I've tried 3NT on hands at least as strong as the one above and gone down. And I've passed hands, that were at least as weak, and seen that the field has played 3NT making. Such is life.
