Favourable at teams, you're in fourth seat, and the auction starts 1S P 2S ...

What's your call? Does it make a difference if LHO could have only 4 spades?

seems clear to make a game try (bid game try and make ;))
"definitely that's what I like to play when I'm playing standard - I want to be able to bid diamonds because bidding good suits is important in bridge" - Meckstroth's opinion on weak 2 diamond

Agree. Bid 4H, then double 4S seems to be a good description.

3H is too few here, and you don't have time to double then bid hearts.

Agree with the 4H then double 4S bidders.

4 .

A 3 bid could be made on a lot less. So bidding that terribly understates the hand. You will be giving your opponents an additional level to sort out their hands. If the opponents bid on to 3 , then what? If you take the push, you may be giving the opponents a fielder's choice.

It's better to bid 4 quickly and let them make the next decision with as little information as possible to go on. There is some danger of possibly pushing them to a vulnerable game they might not otherwise bid. It looks like you've probably got at least 3 tricks. A second trick might be iffy. But Partner has some ways to produce a fourth trick - stiff and ruff, possible trump promotion, or side suit trick.

I'd also double 4 , if they bid it. It only costs an extra 200 points or so, if they make, which gives them a couple more IMPs vs. an undoubled game. But if 4 makes, doubling may be necessary to offset the potential game swing as much as possible when 4 goes down.

the minority report returns and it seems x got outvoted by hmmm I guess technically it was unanimous. I think the 4h x 4s bidders are not looking at the risk vs reward concept of IMPS enough. If p has completely nothing for us 4333 nothing bigger than a 5 spot we still rate to go down only 2 in 5h. Note that that same combination of hands would seem to make 4s also unbeatable. Starting with x followed by at worst 5h will give p a vastly superior idea of our hand vs a 4h jump followed by x which I would save for a hand like A QJTxxxxx AK Ax where I have strong expectation of taking 4 defensive tricks. nuff said lets see if any minds can be changed.
