With partner a passed hand and a flat shape, plus the vulnerability just asking LHO to double, I think we best pass this.

rho is often (but not always) stealing at these colours but lho is a very dangerous dude. So is partner. If we can make anything or go down 1 they probably won't pass a direct bid but may be able to balance.

Very tough, but with today's light openings and a passed partner who couldn't open, bidding looks too risky as LHO may well have a big hand and a bad attitude.

Nice problem, dangerous to bid, dangerous not to bid. To me the problem is that if I bid, we could easily reach the wrong game, and that would sway me towards pass.

If I "knew" what level and denomination was best, I would probably bid. Double is flexible but may lose hearts. 3 may lose spades. A lot of times when you can make 3/3 you will be in game going down. If partner wasn't a passed hand, bidding is more appealing.

Thanks to all for replies.

This was in ACBL cross-imps GIB event.

GIB does not open very light. And when GIB comes from pass it is hard to know wtf is going on. It can have 12 balanced or 10-11 very shapely hands. I was leading the event when this came I paused for about a minute or two and finally decided to pass. With a human partner I would have passed easily. I was the only one who did not bid 3. 3 went down one and I lost 11 imps.

Pd had some 9 or 10 count with 5-5 majors.Posted Image

I still won the event by a big margin despite this -11 imps though.

I also polled it in BW, if you want to see results and who voted for what, it is here

With a real partner you could hope for a 3H reopen, the way i play if im not able to open 2H but later im good enough to to bid 3H vul its because im 2 suited with at least 5H. 6H4S,5H5S or 5H+5C. With a 4522 i would probably X or pass.

I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

This depends on partnership's reopening style, I used to reopen with any 10 count on this type of hand, so you could pass for sure partnering me. But now I am getting little more conservative.

5512 I'd never pass in 4th seat, 5521 I might

I've always thought that playing with robots would affect your game in a bad way and I quite often see players in speedballs bidding 3 on hands like this and getting killed more often than not. Scratch my head wondering what are they doing and why?
