I'm usually OK with somewhat weird penalty doubles/passes, but is 3x really going to be our best spot most of the time? At the moment pass has 0 votes out of 10 respondents:

PS: Don't forget to bash my double. Those comments always add a lot to the discussion.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Ha ha - you only had 13 TP. You promised 14. All your fault :)

Now, if you had held D void ... that would have given you 14
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

It wouldn't be my instinct, but my older PC GIB apparently calculates after some amount of simulation that pass tends to win out in its sample (if east is raising a lot of hands 3 trumps only, kind of unlucky to have 4 trumps and a stiff), apparently there are a fair number of +100/300/500 while you can't make a game to compensate when 3d-x makes, and 3nt is rated as a close second. But this is of course considering DD defense from both sides.

But two observations:
- my GIB likes to overcall 2d with 3c.
- for some bizarre reason unless I give it the setting flag to consider all possibilities it doesn't seem to want to evaluate 3nt, it only looks at pass/4c/5c/3h/4h.

Right the basic GIB isn't going to consider P/3nt, because 4c is the "book bid", and generally the basic GIB is usually locked into book actions.

But this is precisely a situation, high level takeout double, where it should consider alternatives and the advanced GIB should score better than basic GIB in the long run. But maybe 3nt should be the book bid rather than 4c (I'd rather bid this with 9/10+ and a stopper than 4c which promises 0 points and only 4+ clubs and no game bonus when it makes).

Stephen Tu, actually 4 as a book bid is very surprised to me because I thought such book bid usually or even always should be cuebid 4 to show 11-12/ 9-11 TPs values, but Gib Did stay at four level, I really don't understand its meanings.

Or even I used to encounter such book bid rarely.
