Gib distribution points

How hard would it be to fix Gib
so it counts only HCP (not distribution/shortness points) as long as no trumpsuit has been established?

That would considerably improve its bidding quality.

It kind of needs to count it for opening bids but I see your point- maybe after the opening bid or overcall, it doesn't count distribution until the suit is agreed.

You mean, like... it needs to distinguish between a "good 11 HCP" and "bad 11 HCP"?

Likewise when a minor suit is agreed, it needs to devalue distribution points when considering the most likely game (3N).

This type of thing has been considered and may still be in the future, but has to be weighed against simplicity. In other words, such that even an inexperienced bridge player easily knows how GIB arrived at the amount of total points it is claiming to have.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
