What is the worst heart suit that you would hold for this auction?

1D P 1S P
2H P 2S P
3H

S-x
H-??xxx
D-AKQxxx
C-x

Also, do you think 3H is forcing, and if not, what calls would be forcing over 2S?

(I read mikeh's pinned thread but one of my partner's doesn't buy what he says)

We have agreed to play 3H as forcing. A non-game-forcing 5-6 has to rebid 3D
My minimum heart suit is about AQxxx or KQ109x

Ah, so you would reverse with less, but need this much to bid 3H forcing.

Others will have other opinions, but:

a) ATxxx or KQxxx. KJTxx? To me, a pure 4-loser 5=6 is a reverse. Hx, xx and the A is all I need for slam.

b) That would strongly depend on one's agreements about 2. The way one of my teachers and the majority of flight A in my area play it, 2 shows at least invitational values and 3 is screamingly not passable (after a reverse, the only way to get out short of game is 2NT, even 2NT-then-3). The way I play it, 2 is an attempt to get out on a weak misfit, and I suppose 3 is passable, under the "if it makes 4, you're buying the drinks" rule (the one that applies if we pass 1x-1y; 1M). [Edit: I like Frances' agreement. I may discuss that.]

It also depends on your agreements about 1-p-2. Some of my partners play this as WJS. Those partnerships would not have the hand to pass 3 unless they misbid the first round (and one of my rules is "once you've made your decision, stick with it. If you change your mind, you're guaranteed to have made a mistake. It might not be the first decision.") Some of my partners play this as Soloway Strong, or Fit (5+spades, 4+diamonds, limit raise-ish values). Those might have bid on JTxxxx xx x QTxx hoping to get away with it. They might pass 3 and hope to get away with that, as well - especially if opener doesn't avoid 2 with two-suiter, primary diamonds hands. I still think they're buying the drinks if I make 4 (and it's scotch if we should be in 6).

So, yeah.

I am assuming that 2S is ambiguous about strength and that opener's 3D can be passed now. If you disagree with that assessment, replace 2S by 2NT if that's your weakness showing bid (partnership auction 1D-1S-2H-2NT-3H).

KJxxx is bare minimum, but would enjoy the 10 too. With KQ, I would be tempted to rebid 4.
2 is ambiguous on this auction.

Since we have described our shape (and approximate purity), partner can help place the contract. I do not consider 3 forcing if partner has a poorly fitting hand with no cover cards.

Would expect a 4 rebid to show a 3-loser and a 3 rebid to be patterning out, but a general force if that's what we need.

You have said that your topic is " minimum for a 5-6 reverse", so 3 shouldn't a forcing bid since you never have so strong strength to force to game.
After 2, for me, I would better rebid 3.

A certain clarification is necessary about what are the requirements, (a) A simple reverse bid and (b A Jump Shift reverse bid. 1D-1S-2H is what I take as simple reverse with 5 losers and a holing of Axxxx or equivalent is an enough holding in Hearts.
A jump shift as 1D-1S-3H is "an almost 2 Club " opening with 4 or even less losers.( a hand not opened 2C because of difficulty in further rebids as the minor suit is longer and stronger than the major suit)
Some players, for reasons best known to themselves , play 1D-1S-3H as "splinter with spade fit".Personally I don't and will never like this interpretation.
