Partner first told you that it was not your lead. Didn't the OP say that this is OK?

I thought the whole issue was about whether RR was allowed to realize that he shouldn't go up with his ace when the Chimp leads a club. I didn't think there was any expectation that RR should continue to lead out of turn. The infraction took place after he was informed that it's not his lead.

SB wanted all possible benefits from the infraction as he always does.

What prevented RR from leading out of turn was the Chimp's statement that it is not RR's lead. That statement is legal, see Law 9A3. The infraction was the chimp showing the card with which he won the trick, a violation of Law 66B. The comment "I overtook your seven with my eight" is extraneous, an irregularity, not an infraction.

No, what prevented RR from leading out of turn was the combination of the Chimps's statement, the displaying of the eight of diamonds, and the statement that RR had played the seven. All RR could remember was playing a higher card than dummy and declarer. It did not occur to him that his partner might have won the trick. Two of the three things that prevented the LOOT were illegal.

Your ruling, your ruin, or are you simply rueful?
