x was defined as 2 spades.

Maybe the Gib programmers haven't yet established bidding rules on how to take next auctions.

Here is an extreme opposite: http://tinyurl.com/zgl65bu

Opps are known to be in a 6-card fit and we are likely to be in a 7-card fit. Hard to believe that the sims favour taking the double out.

Hi,

GIB is very poor about removing takeout doubles on hands where it seems obvious to do so. This becomes more true the higher the auction goes. It is a much harder problem to fix than you might think. A fix is not yet forthcoming, but it is on the radar of the programmer. I will forward this hand along to his attention. Sorry I wish I had better news.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Hi Josh, thanks for your response. Post a bit more here otherwise I will overtake you in a few of months given the current trend!

I am bit surprised that it can't get these decisions right. Doesn't it DD-simulate 2MX as well as the alternative contracts?

It doesn't simulate all the situations you might think. Even if it were to simulate on an auction like this, we wouldn't want it to always do so. We would want it to follow rules in general based on strength and suit length, and only simulate borderline hands or hands with 4 spades.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
