I went for other on first one, but I am probably influenced by it being a problem

Torn between small and K on the first one, declarer likely has a stiff heart, but is it large or small ? Might be influenced by how many diamonds and spades opener has shown.

On the second, what system is being played. If weak no trump Acol, are they playing any form of checkback ? do they open 1 or 1 4-4 in the reds ?

Hand #1 - going passive -- small .

Hand #2 - . If bidding is correct, partner must have 5+ . Opener could have 4 cards in either round suit, but failure of responder to check back with an invitational hand denies 4 or 5 .

If you want passive lead you shouldn't underlead A10 into declarer's suit, try a diamond instead.

I don't know, but I think you can safely assume North has fewer than 4 hearts.

I knew that, but it looked like S can't have 4 either in quite a lot of Acol type systems so partner has 6 and hasn't bid, so likely has 6 not good enough to get anywhere.

What are all the 'other' voters on the first board leading?

1. K best chance to beat the contract is to find pd with something like Q9xxx or J9xxx
2. K Again, Trying to beat the contract

Fair enough, although the likely success of this lead depends to some extent on the opponents' system. Did the 1 rebid imply an unbalanced hand?

The problem is that a top spade could well be the only lead which allows the contract to make!. Declarer is quite likely to hold A and the jack will often be in dummy.
