Chrome, and now firefox will stop supporting flash in the near future. Is there a plan to use HTML5 instead? This should be considered sooner rather than later.

FYI, the anonymous Just Play Bridge and Bridge 4 Hands games are HTML5.

But rewriting the full BBO application in HTML5/Javascript will be a huge project. Doing that could mean putting all other development on the web and mobile app on hold for a while.

Where did you read that they're going to stop supporting Flash in the near future? All I've been able to find is that they're going to start blocking Flash by default, except for a handful of well-known sites that depend on it. You'll have to enable it on a per-site basis, and it will remember your selection. So the first time you use BBO after this policy goes into effect you'll get a warning. You click say to enable it, and it's all good.

That's all very well, but as flash is so vulnerable to cybercriminality, the fact that nobody is actively supporting it leads me to believe that it might become even more vulnerable in future. Already my modus operandi is to not have any flash on my machine as default, installing and uninstalling if and when I feel the obligation to use it. Avoid it like the plague.

It's a pity, because back in the old days there were some really good swf files knocking around. I used to like one of some flexible person perpetually tumbling over bubbles, if you remember that. Anyone know of an html5 version?

It seems like Flash is one of the few plugins Firefox will keep as they phase out NPAPI plugins in early 2017.

seems to be the most recent on this, and has a link to the original notification.

The 64-bit version does not run flash at all

Chrome allows PPAPI Flash, which from what I can tell BBO uses.

That's about Java, not Flash.
