While I appear to have the minimum values to bid now, the fifth round stopper in spades as the only card outside of clubs suggests that I show less of a hand outside of clubs, so I show a one suiter in clubs by bidding 2 on the first round over the spade overcall. Otherwise, even if partner does have a pure strong NT, we could be forced to declare at too high a level without adequate direction.

3. Should have a play, down 1 may score well (they surely can't double when I have these spots) and I often end up defending 3 instead of 2.

3C, partner shouldn't hang us after we passed twice.

I was North.

My view:
After my subsequent pass over 2♥, I could have either:
(i) a strong no trump or
(ii) a hand that would rebid 2♦
After (i) a bid of 3♣ is fairly obvious.
After (ii) Either 3♣ or pass may be best. Not sure what % you would put on this but think it would be around 50%.
If this is the case then 3♣ is the % winner.

Partner's view:
East's overcall of 1S reduces the probability that you have a strong nt (only 3 spades between W and N). West's 2H bid shows 5= probably so you probably have 4=. Basically the whole hand is a misfit so general principle is to keep out. Also, imo 3C should have some sort of tolerance for diamonds in case you are 2461 shape.
