easy 4 spades, if for some reason I couldn't open 4 spades then I'd open 1 spade, 3 just seems really bad to me.

I think that hesitation would only really become an issue were you to have chosen 3S

I've never heard of a single suited hand being described as "constructive"

Given 2nd position, eq. vul. - 3S, if I play with my regular p.
Playing with a partner, with whom I did not have discussed preempts in depth - 4S.

Close decision. With the same hand and 7321 shape I'd open 3S, but I think the void and suit quality are enough to convince me to open 4S.

I don't think this hand is worth wasting too much time on because in the long run the IMP expectation of 3S and 4S will be very similar.

I'm not bidding 4S with a seven-card suit in second seat - it's not helpful to pre-empt partner (particularly when we own the spade suit). 3S is more reasonable, but I feel that I have the values to bid 1S and this is the most constructive option.

As with Fluffy's thread, this goes a little to pre-empting agreements. 4♠ for me but I have no problem with a style where this would be opened 3.

obviously a lot of stronger players than me vote for 3s but I would just never expect this hand if P opened 3s. Maybe I'm just too much a juniour

I'm settling for 3S, but wouldn't criticise 4S. I would probably bid 4S if I had a heart void instead though.

Once RHO passes there is less reason to preempt so the decision is really whether or not to open. I think it is too easy to miss game by passing, so I would understand a partner who bid this hands 1S, 2S, 3S, 4S. If quite disciplined, I would open either 2S or 3S as system dictated. Regardless, I believe the pressing issue here is how to make a constructive bid rather than a destructive one.
