purely a matter for partnership discussion
"definitely that's what I like to play when I'm playing standard - I want to be able to bid diamonds because bidding good suits is important in bridge" - Meckstroth's opinion on weak 2 diamond

Traditionally it shows hearts. If exit transfers have been agreed then it is obviously spades. Many other escape systems use it to show both majors.

Agree with Zelandakh that, without agreement, natural, to play, is a reasonable interpretaion.

Barmar plays it as a transfer.

Most of my partners play
- Redouble = Puppet to 2 so that you can show a 5 card suit.
- Suit = That suit and a higher ranking suit (here majors)
- Some play that pass forces a redouble, so that you can distinguish specific 2-suiters.

I prefer
- Redouble = 2 suits. Asks opener to bid a 5-card suit, otherwise 2.
- Suit = Usually 5+ cards (but if doubled then redouble shows the next suit).
- Pass = Content (But opener can redouble to show a 5-card suit).

I'm surprized that 2 wasn't doubled, but it's understandable, given how the defence went.

For strong notrumpers it is also quite popular to play system on with redbl showing a minor suit. That is what GIB plays and it is SAYC (well maybe the SAYC booklet forgot about the redouble).

Here the double is penalty. Some play system on after a non-penalty double only. In that case, 2 is natural here.

I have sympathy for both. E holds both majors so he can live with either interpretation. W obviously passes as p can always get back to spades if they double 2.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

I think the point here is to show up EARLY on game days and have time to discuss these simple problems OR at least put something on your profile to handle the easy stuff like this situation). JEC needs practice and letting them gain imps on simple sequences like this are irritating to them:)

Just fill out a convention card before game time. Mine address this and either say Sys On/Pen x or DONT/Pen x.

Be prepared!
