I blame south....south has an easy pass not 2D which should promise more much much more.

I'm voting 50/50. I don't like 2D, but I don't like 4S either. This seems like just about the worst time to try for a 5-2 fit game. I would double 3C as North. It might still end up being bad, but if it does, then I blame south for the 2D bid.

A vote by the likes of Jallerton, LMilne, JLall, etc is probably more significant than other votes. Anonymous polls remove that useful information. IMO:
  • South's 1 and 2 are pushy but OK in an aggressive style.
  • Over West's 3, North might double. Even 3 would be an overbid.

Hence, it's mainly North's fault.

north 82%. there is a bid available to show points but no primary fit. that bid is double. 4 spades on a 5-2 fit with the long hand getting forced is bound to play badly.

I don't know it depends on your standards for taking a free bid opposite a passed hand especially if this is imps.

At matchpoints NV with a lot of partners sure that would be true.
but with at least one partner I'm gonna be pushing for game, sure a 5-2 is ill-advised, but with this partner I've missed game too many times not to make some attempt with 10 points. I'm at least bidding 4.
