I would like to play online with some of the partners I also play with in person. To do this, it would be convenient to build our convention card in BBO and print it out for use offline. Right now we keep an online and an offline version, but we recently had an embarrassing misunderstanding when the two didn't match.

I can print the BBO convention card, but it has an aspect ratio of 4:3, unlike the 1:1 of the standard ACBL convention card and available holders. I have not found any software that enables me to change the aspect ratio of the PDF before printing.

Could BBO provide or suggest a solution? (If Bill Gates happens to read this, it would be a great addition to the Microsoft .XPS editor!)

For convention cards that I want to print, I use the software at Bridge Winners.

For years I've been thinking about a way to make use of BW convention cards in BBO, but haven't gotten around to implementing it.

If you use the BBO CC it will always either be too short by about 1/3 of a page or stretched.
What you can do is in upper right hit open in new window
this new web page can be printed you need to use landscape to get it to fit
Depending on your software you may be able to save as JPG I have to put in PDF
Then I can convert pdf to jpeg then crop it too your liking.
Can keep as jpeg or put into your favorite editor

you could stretch the jpeg to a 4:3 ratio but writing will appear elongated

Using a CC editor is better just don't make mistakes lol

For what it may be worth to anyone else, I have finally managed to print a semi-acceptable card from BBO

  • Use PDFlite to 'print' the card to a PDF
  • Use Acrobat Reader DC to add any non-standard text (optional)
  • Use Imageprinter Pro to convert the PDF into a TIF
  • Use Notepad to create convcard.html with the following super-complicated contents "<img src="convcard.tif" height="825" width="750">"
  • Open the html file in Microsoft Edge and print it with narrow margins and 100% size.

Unfortunately, the free version of Imageprinter overprints "Not Registered Version" down the middle of the back page of the card. If anyone knows of free software without this "feature", I would be grateful for the info.

How about a CC option to enter a URL? When a player clicked "NS CC" or "EW CC" in the playing area it would display the URL contents in a window.

Are you saying you want an outside webpage to popup if someone clicks on the CC card option?

I don't think this is a good idea for any game client. (ie popping up outside webpages without any restriction). For instance, the profile pix everyone can upload still has to be vetted because there are people who insist on selecting crazy pix to upload. What if the URL they link in this page is some bad URL?

I can only see this working with some established, recognized CCs, I suppose. EIther that, or require vetting. Like for a major event held online like one of the GNTs, perhaps participants could be asked to send in their detailed notes and defenses or whatever if any, and we could make the button show up for those. I can see this working, but not for the majority of the casual games here.

There are a handful of known sites that host convention cards. What we can probably do is have a menu of the sites, and then allow you to fill in the filename from the URL. It will then put them together to generate the actual URL used in the popup.

E.g. You select Bridge Winners, enter the name barry-margolin-individual, and it uses the URL http://bridgewinners...olin-individual
