I have a friend who joined BBO, but can't play with me in tournaments because they don't have a completion rate. How do you get a completion rate if you can't get into them? Which tournaments give you a rate?

Thanks

I think completion rate is for all boards played, not just tournament boards. So it should work to just play some hands in one of the regular rooms.

There are two separate statistics, one for tournaments (TCR) and one for main bridge club (MCR). TCR is used for tourney eligibility, MCR can be used by MBC table hosts.

To answer the OP: he can play in tournaments that don't restrict entries based on TCR. Once he plays in 10 tournaments, he'll get a TCR the next day. None of the pay tourneys have restrictions.

It's kind of annoying though, isn't it because BBO is theoretically free.

Membership in BBO is free, covering MBC, many tournaments, and other stuff. Yes, there are some optional premium activities. There are four free Express tournaments per hour without restrictions. (Another four per hour with.) I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of tournaments that OP is trying to play with his new partner are not actually run by BBO, so it is the tournament organizers who are choosing to put a restriction on participation that can't be met by brand-new members.

Concerning the tourney completion you have to play 10 tournaments within 60 days to get an initial calculation. Before that you will not be able to register in any tourney where that is required. After your TCR is once calculated that should be no more a big problem.
http://www.bridgebas...tion_rates.html

Registering in a one or more of the clubs is a good way to have access to more tournaments and better run tournaments as well.

Most country/language related tourneys are not restricted for tourney completion rate, so it depends from where you come if there might be a chance for you.

Hosts that run at least some of their tourneys without the restriction of TCR are:
friend12
anba
B4F2 : most are open (Jukebox, Midnight fun et al) but not all
anaversic
tapaskk
Louise1940 (A seniors moment)
IBAA (Bridge addicts)
free fun (Goulash tourneys)
H B G ("Fun for all" only)
Rosetown
bilmanager (restricted to level)
free fun

Pay tourneys should give you access too like ACBL or SKY. Additional some of the robot tourneys.

It's guaranteed. The only tourneys that BBO runs that have TCR restrictions are the Free Automated Fun tourneys, which are individuals, not pair tournaments.
