1H by North directly over 1D would only promise a 4 card suit, right? Was he perhaps hoping to defend 1DX?

What would X of 1S by North have shown?

It doesn't feel to me like the most extraordinary action that I have witnessed in a robot.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

maybe not the worst we have seen but seriously, how can this show four hearts and no second place to play? if double doesn't show this hand (not sure why it doesn't) then there is always 1NT. Or pass.

I think you should reconsider using the word "retarded" in this way, Helene. Perhaps Barry can dig around in the system file and find out the difference between an immediate 1, double of 1 and this 2. That might shed some light on what is going on in this auction or at least suggest how the system could be improved in the next update.

Happy New Year everyone!

It's not her fault. I semi introduced this usage (in the sense of delayed but also foolish) in the principle "doubles of retarded bids are penalty."
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.
