While I suppose that partner may have only three spade support, my LTC of 6 indicates we have a probable game in that case, so game would be probably be percentage. And partners have been known to raise on four! So I raise to 4.

While I have a lot of pretty cards, starting a cue-bidding sequence on a possible 5-3 fit scares me. And partner's anticipated diamond cue in this auction reveals duplicated values.

I agree with "game try". I do not agree that 4 is a game try here. Double is.

Yeah, thought so. Partner bid 3S! Claimed a fix when everyone else was in 4S+1 because perhaps every other table was pushed into 4S. I thought the hand called for a mild slam try.

Yes, but was the slam try the best way to coax the double in game.

I'd bid 4 in a flash over 3 . Yeah, partner's hand is somewhat of a misfit with mine. But we do have an 8+ card fit. I just think there are just too many hands where 4 makes opposite this 6 loser player.

Normally with such a good offensive hand with a high chance of an overtrick I would control bid in search of slam. Here my void in diamonds probably duplicates the values in partner's main suit, so I would not. If the contract was doubled my main difficulty would be avoiding a premature sign of glee. But avoiding game. Ken has all my sympathies and none go to his partner.

I don't get this hand. I bid 4S automatically and don't consider anything else even remotely sensible.

Grand could be cold: AKxx x xxxxx AQx, very difficult to find out about what you need to know for slam to be good. You need to find out about fourth trump and honours in clubs (preferably the ace).

Would you rebid 2 with AKxx x xxxxx AQx? I wouldn't.

No I wouldn't, but the person who held this hand didn't bid game, I can see their partner not bidding 3 with that hand. I guess the better argument is that AKxx x xxxxx Axx and now grand is on a finesse, although I guess you might even bid more than 2 with that.

That depends a bit on whether 1S showed 5 spades, doesn't it?
