Does anyone happen to have old copies of the ACBL Midchart.

The current version of the chart includes the line:

"Psyching a conventional agreement which may show fewer than 10 HCP and which is not permitted by the General Convention Chart. This
includes psyching responses to or rebids of these methods."

I don't recall this being in earlier version of the chart and would like help determining when it was inserted.

The December 2004 version has the same line.

It does seem as if "prohibiting them to be psyched" should not be a part of regulating conventional agreements.

Does this mean that it is legal to psych a GCC convention under the Midchart, only illegal to psych a Midchart convention?

The wording has changed at some point since 1997 -- once upon a time, it said psyching conventional openings, and psyching conventional responses, but it now has been extended to rebids, and, apparently, to natural responses after conventional openings.

The previous version of the Laws only allowed RAs to regulate conventional bids, so ACBL couldn't do anything about psyching natural bids. The 2007 revision relaxed that, and ACBL extended their psychic restrictions (what a coincidence!).

It is odd that the General Convention Chart psyching restriction hasn't been extended -- it still says "psyching of artificial or conventional opening bids and/or conventional responses thereto. Psyching conventional suit responses which are less than 2NT to natural openings."

So apparently it really IS their intention to forbid psyching a natural response or rebid to Midchart conventions only (and to relax the restriction on psyching conventional responses to natural openings, on the Midchart.) That is a subtle distinction I don't recall seeing before -- but as I typically go years at a time without seeing a single Midchart event, I didn't pay much attention to the wording of the Midchart for a long time.

Interestingly, this seems to be nebulous as to meaning. I assume it means psyching calls for which our agreement is conventional but it could be read to mean psyching with a hand that fits a convention where that is not our agreement. I had visions of opening 2 on x AQJxxx xxx xxx and getting dragged over hot coals...

AFAIK, it has always been understood to mean psyching calls for which the agreement is conventional.

https://web.archive....http://acbl.org is my resource for this. Sort of hit and miss, of course, but it was my go-to for this timeline lo these many years ago.

and, to note, my "first available" mid-chart, from 1996, has your line in "DISALLOWED, 7". So it's been 20 years, at least...I think this time your memory is thinking of something else.
