This was actually our opps' auction, but I had a lot of sympathy for it. I don't know exactly what their system over a 1N overcall was, so I've made two polls, one for our system, one for the possibility that they didn't have any relevant C-showing bid.

1- IF we agree with the 1 NT overcall, I can not see how N can stop short of game, whether he showed clubs or not, can you?

2- IF we disagree with 1 NT overcall and pass with S hand, and N balances with 2, can we stop short of 3 NT with S hand? I strongly doubt it..

Only thing that comes to my mind, IF S passes 1 and IF W bids 1 NT intending to show weak hands with long hearts later, then perhaps we can settle in partscore in some competitive auction or sell out to their 2-3 if we decide not to enter to bidding.

I would expect to have the same auction in my partnerships.

So would I. The dodgiest action is the 1NT overcall; 3NT looks completely normal.

I suppose there would be a different thread / ATB if the bidding went:

1 p p 2
3N ?
