I thought about making this a defense problem from South's perspective (at trick 4), but felt it was just too random. I was West on this board. Maybe my 4NT bid isn't right, but it felt right at the time somewhat assuming everyone plays it as unusual. I almost had a heart attack when partner passed 4N. Thankfully the opps never got the clubs going, so I managed to scramble 4 tricks. Not sure what lessons you can draw from this, but I ended up with a top with the rest of the room in 4S making 10 or 11 tricks (though how they only made 10 I don't know). Needless to say, the opps weren't very happy about getting a bottom for beating a contract 6 tricks. I think this might be my first time getting a top for having a misunderstanding and playing in a truly ridiculous contract.

As the saying goes, always remember to take the 7th undertrick at matchpoints!

Perhaps north should act over 4NT. Although I suppose it is reasonable for him to expect another chance.

Haha the reverse actually happened to me kind of in the reisinger, I was playing in a cuebid and I realized I needed to construct a layout where 620 makes, but on that layout I would go for 700 so I needed to steal a trick (which is pretty easy to do in these situations usually). Anyways I thought for a really long time and later my opponent LOLed at me for grinding this one hard haha. It did not matter as they were only on for 140.

Perhaps?

I still remember how my opponents who started the board in a bad mood, started cheering up trick after trick when they run 6 spades and 5 hearts against my 3NT.
They were so happy and complimented each other untill they open the scoring sheet... to see their +350 was no match against the boring +450 all around. Then they started to yell each other blaming partner for not doubling.

On the other hand my father once got an 1 IMP pick up for making no trick at all after 3 opening (any solid suit) all pass and -450. This was at a European Team Championship.

Depends on vulnerability!

Today I had to squeeze declarer to get 4th down in 1 and save the board when I realized we were cold for 4.
