I probably should either open 1D or rebid 4D instead of 3D. Those who did had no problem playing in game in Hearts, albeit with an earlier version of GIB so I cannot be sure it would have been mirrored.
Indeed at least one player with the earlier version also chose to open 1H and rebid 3D, to which North then bid a very reasonable 3H, and game in Hearts resulted.
At my table, North over 3D decided to conceal a known 8 card major suit fit in favour of a fit of potentially only 7 cards in a minor, and in the process showing a 4th Diamond that he does not hold.
