I encountered these two hands in the same set of 12, an ACBL robot IMP pairs individual.

I'm curious as to why North would make a negative double with the second hand but not the first. Given its willing to double with the comparative junk of the second hand, I couldn't imagine that North held two bullets for its pass with the first hand, and was certainly not about to venture above game. If partner makes a negative double I would expect us to explore for slam.
