ok this is just silly - unwarranted penalty doubles

When gib's partner promises 14 or fewer hcp, then what business
does it have making a penalty double of 3C ?

I don't particularly like the double of 2 either. Just defend undoubled, if partner is strong enough he can double in balancing seat and you can sit.

Not a big fan of the 2 call itself, also.

East also showed 16+ total points, which is hard to reconcile with the 1NT rebid.

I can imagine the simulations suggests that defending 3 doubled is a long term winner. But it is hard to know which East hands come up in the sims. As Bradley says, 12-14 balanced with 16+ TP....

In v34 both things should be improved.

1) The sudden disappearance of 2-3 cards from 1NT , showing 1 spade.
2) Double will be avoided with lack of 3TP.
