Again, I know that GIB N recently filed a complaint at my developer, complaining about my 4 bid and my poor declarer play, but I misread the 4 bid as "3" instead of "3-." And I never promised good declarer play. On to my main points:
  • this hand is a pass or possibly a 3 bid. jumping to 4 makes no sense
  • jumping to 4 makes no sense anyway unless you have a fit in diamonds (in expert standard, it is usually played as 4+6 and a good hand that definitely wants to play game in diamonds. Let's say, x xx Kxxx AKTxxx.)
  • even if there is some magic hand that can bid 4 here, shouldn't it have "2-" instead of "3-"?
  • in what universe is N worth 11+ total points?
  • why does it always rain on me? is it because I lied when I was seventeen?

... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Maybe if it knew you were recording live and uploading to youtube, then it would behave better.

  • even if there is some magic hand that can bid 4 here, shouldn't it have "2-" instead of "3-"?Yes, it should
  • in what universe is N worth 11+ total points? GIB simply counts 9 HCP + 2 distribution points for spade singleton = 11 total points.

Bbradley,May I ask you a question?

How many differences are there between responding 3 and 4 after 2?
I don't know Gib CC,can you tell me? maybe it is the answer of this problem I guess.

Thanks.

I can't say for sure, but I presume 3 would be 6+ HCP; 10- total points, whereas 4 is 11+ total points. I'm not defending the way GIB counts points, just explaining it. He adds HCP and shortness points and subtracts for double-counting, with no attempt to modify/qualify that based on partner or opps' bids.

Ok,very good.Thank you for your help.
I think there were three aspects of reasons for this accident.
First, the explanations of Gib were not clear on the Gib CC.
Second,I think this accident was partly due to the ossified mechanical bidding style of Gib.
Third,I also think this accident was mainly due to player's understanding is not enough.
Assume Gib N is Fred Gitlman, his explanations of 4 is invitional with long suit, now I think all of us should pass.In fact,4 still is a decent final contract.
So I have to say we should understand and respect Gib CC.

Finally I found a good hand for the 4 jump! GIB was right! See it in action here:

Oh.. Never mind, this was a balanced invite instead.

Move over, 5422 and 6322. 8320 is the new balanced.
