I double which shows either 18+ balanced or 15+ unbalanced (2maj is 10-14 take out of other major) and I'm preparing to bid 5 over them jumping to 4!

Are you also preparing your lead against 2X?

Are you sure 2X is a likely contract? I mean... I've seen it happen, but only like 1-2 times in 20 years play.

It is more likely when you have a void.

Clear double for me.

It promises 13-15 balanced or any 19+.

I didn't like the methods and didn't really know what to do, so I blasted 6 which silenced everyone. Partner had:

s split 0-2, s 3-1, so 6 made. EW can make 6 if they find the Q. 6 in our direction would fail on a DD line (A + ruff) while 6 would fail in their direction on a DD line (K + ruff).

Sure, If I was afraid of every less than 1% situation then I'd never leave the house :-)

2D is a multi and likely to be a wk 2 in spades based on my hand, so with 12 out there both my left hand, right hand and in this case ;-) centre hand opponent would all need to pass the double. Partner with diamonds would need to be fairly weak to not want to bid and to take the +100/200/500 given that west has passed 'probably' showing tolerance for diamonds and I can and am likely (if his hand is unbalanced) to have an 18+ unbalanced hand then we probably have a game on and pending his strength slam.

If he passes, maybe he has a 2362 5 count and no game is making (say losing 2 hearts & a spade in 5c, losing 6 spades in 3nt etc)

So for that small risk I'll gain a chance to better describe my hand and hopefully get to the right spot more often than not and pick up some imps or MPs versus the field who guess which spot to be in.

I agree with the initial x and your furtner followups. X certainly will not close the auction.

How much is 2Dx+4? 980? Just wondering..
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.
