What do you plan to compare them with? As Mike said, it's almost inconceivable to play anything other than natural that doesn't let you show both majors.

From the traveller just select the "movie" link (not the LIN link). There is no tinyurl involved if you are going through the myhands site. Once the movie link opens you have all the code in the address bar, just copy the stuff after the lin=.

I'm totally confused on which is the address bar. I copied it and got this garbage.

On another subject, does anyone know if there is a way to export a BBO saved hand directly to the forum, rather than having to link it or recreate it in the forum hand editor?

That's pretty much what my posts in this thread are trying to answer. Just click on your tinyurl. This will open a page with the hand diagram, and a full URL in the address bar which contains code that is basically identical to the code the forum hand editor uses. You just have to copy the section *after* the "lin=" in the URL, omit the first http://...?... section. Then you enclose inside the hv tags as indicated in my first post in this thread, with the pixel dimensions (I recommend 400|300), and the closing /hv tag.
Again that's:
[hv=(copied full expanded handviewer URL)]400|300[/hv]

http://www.bridgebas...S3%7Cpc%7CCA%7C

The address bar is the box usually on the top of the browser in which you type in addresses you want to visit e.g. www.google.com or whatever. When you click on a link, such as a movie link on myhands, or the tinyurl that the BBO client gives after export hand->hand viewer link, the browser goes to that page and displays the web address in that bar.

You almost got it correct. The problem is that you copied the whole link and just pasted the entire link. What you need to do is to copy just *a part* of the link, the stuff after "lin=" in the address bar. You can use your mouse, click on the address until you get a cursor, then drag over the just the end portion and copy to clipboard. Or you can copy the whole address, paste it into your post, then just lop off the http://www.bridgebase...?...lin= beginning part using the post text editor. Then add the surrounding hv tags as I describe above and in my first post.

Edit:
I did some testing and it looks like with current software you don't have to do any URL trimming, don't have to omit the first http://... part. All you have to do is add the enclosing hv tags, you can leave the first part of the URL in. That makes it easier. So again:
[hv=(copied URL)]400|300[/hv]

what's cappeletti got to do with anything? I mean, I don't like the convention, but I won't play without some means of showing both majors, and I am never passing as West. You can have your occasional 'road map' and I'll have my frequent pickups on boards where we find our fit.

If you pass west's hand you might as well take up euchre!

Today's Cappelleti hand. I unfortunately have let a number of these disappear, including another nice strip squeeze. It did involve a very difficult to see defensive error (Cap. bidder's partner leading 9 from 954 rather than the 4, which enable a J8 tenace to develop over the Cap. bidder at the end), but the hand was certainly down at 3NT without the Cap. bid.

As David Bird showed (at least arguably) in his books on leads, even an expert's opinion of a proper play can be quite wrong in a quantitative sense. People tend to react to highly visible events -- in this case, having a great result showing a 2-suiter over a strong 1NT, while ignoring more subtle bad results it might cause. Just look at how afraid people become from an airline crash while blithely continuing to talk on their cellphone in their car, something much more likely to kill them.

Anyway, lacking any better quantitative method, I'm keeping track of Cappelleti hands from BBO games. These are admittedly not expert level play in most cases, but still, I can imagine a good player looking for partner's minor instead of showing the spades here.

The hand was down 2, -100 for a flat top. Down 1 would have also been 100%.

Why is it garbage? Was it the wrong hand or are you commenting on the bidding?

My point is that "inconceivable" does not mean "correct". There are several independent variables but nothing I can do about that. This is at least a quantified test with some degree of regularity -- i.e. the GIB -- of how effective it actually is to show double suits against a strong 1NT opener, as opposed to the "in my expert opinion" test.

I am entertaining the possibility that natural is better.

I think you missed the point. I did sit South and I did pass, and I did get an excellent score. Point being, not showing two five-card majors came out well in this instance.

If West bids a natural 2, they play in spades for a top.

Glad you're feeling good, but why annoyed? Not using Cap. and getting a great score is the contrapositive of using Cap. and not doing well. The flip side of the same coin.

People get way too irritated in forums. It's just a suggestion that showing moderate two-suiters over a strong NT might have more downside than upside.

What about 65 or 56? At what point would you crack and bid?

Lets try a random one off the top of my head (lets make it weaker because we have 11 cards) - are you recommending pass on say:

It sounds to me like you're entertaining the possibility that passing is better. You are allowed to do so, even playing Capp, even holding the OP hand if you think it's going to be a winner. For natural to be better, you'd have to gain more from overcalling a natural 2 (or 2) than from overcalling a 'both majors' hand (or for it to come up sufficiently more often).

OK sorry. I guess the code from myhands is in a somewhat different format from the one that you get through export deal->handviewer link. With your code, you need to use hv=lin=. Just copy the whole link I think it works. Don't worry about the different format the software can parse both. %7C is the | character, I guess your browser escapes this in the address bar but the board software can deal with it.

try:
[hv=lin=pn|RevRay,buchananj,slamdunk7,gbd5981|st%7C%7Cmd%7C2S2457JH4JKD7QKC45%2CS89AH589TD569C23Q%2CS3TQKH3QD24TJC69J%2C%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%204%7Csv%7Cb%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C1C%7Cmb%7C1S%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C2S%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CCA%7C]400|300[/hv]

This is the fourth time in three days I have made 3NT because a Cappelleti bid drew me a road map, and the second strip squeeze.

I don't see any realistic way to make it without West's 2 bid.

Spade lead, diamond finesse, second diamond trick, then four rounds of clubs. West has to discard down to KJ, or else a heart toward the queen ends the hand. The you feed him the K.

Don't most players open 1 with the South hand?
The lesson is 'if LHO has 5/5 in the majors, always open 1NT with a 5 card major'.
