No Way to Find 4-4 Fit 2c p 2nt p; all suit bids are 5-card suits

In a strong 2c auction, the robot's response is 2nt:

2c p 2nt p
?

2nt doesn't deny a 4-card major.

All 3-level suit bids by responder, including 3c, are 5+ card suits.

There appears to be no way to find a 4-4 fit.

I hand a hand with 4-4 majors and opened 2c and rebid 2nt, and was stuck.

I think you meant "all 3-level suit bids by 2c opener", not responder. I agree with this, needs to be changed. Over natural 2nt, I think it's pretty common to play 3 clubs as clubs OR looking for 4 cd major, and responder should bid 4 cd suits freely afterwards.

Or better, eliminate the natural 2NT rebid. We have discussed this before - in my experience VERY few good pairs use a natural 2NT response to 2C, and this has been true for decades.

I think 2nt natural bid is OK given that GIB is supposed to play something relatively simple with other positive responses being natural. I like having responder show decent slammish values then fit or lack thereof after opener shows his shape. To me this works out better than responder showing absolutely nothing with 2d, then trying to wrest captaincy with blackwood or whatever after opener just bids game since opener has to cater to responder having a 3 count instead of an 8 or 9 count.

With my regular partners I basically swap 2H & 2nt responses.

Perhaps. I prefer 2H response as immediate negative. But I would prefer 2D waiting with 3C second negative to a natural 2NT response.

The obvious thing to do would be to raise to 3NT (forcing) and then allow four-card suits to be bid.
