If systems are on, and doubling 2 would be Stayman, should 3N deny a four-card major?

Perhaps it is allowing for 4333 hands. Whether or not it should when an opponent has advertised a long suit is up for debate.

I will have to look, but I think that with 4333 GIB bids Stayman without interference. This sequence should be similar. (If anything, as you say, even if GIB foregoes Stayman without the overcall maybe he should employ it after the overcall.)

Maybe not, according to this description, but I'm still looking for a 4x3 w/4card major...

Ok, so now I guess I think GIB is inconsistent... Either he bypasses Stayman with (43)33, or the description of 1N-3N should deny 4card major...

I believe this is a moot point. Once 3NT is bid it is too late for investigation for a 4 card Major. Does it really matter if the description addresses the issue?

It is unlikely to be important in a best-hand-South tournament, but if I were on lead at trick 1 I might want to know the opposing methods.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

A valid point. Unless I see a hand where GIB bids 3NT in this situation with a 4 card Major, I'd assume it denies one. For a human player, most would play that responder has the option of bidding 3NT with any shape when he or she believes it is the best contract.
