Sorry, I meant he is suggesting:

1C-1H-3D: Invitational or GF splinter

1C-1H-4D: Minimum GF splinter.

Yeah I know, but the principle seems to be similar. Why commit yourself to a GF when you could jump a level higher, sign off in 3M, use Frivolous/Serious 3N and eventually sign off in 4M to partition your hand strength? Meanwhile mini-splinters can be really nice for finding (or avoiding) thin games and occasionally slams.

Playing normal systems, I always play single-jump shifts of 1M opening as split range splinters by preference to any other pick-up method. Far better than Bergen, IMO.

bergen sucks anyway.. lol

I play that new suits by opener are forcing and jumps are splinter; 12-14 or 18-19.
Playing that I would bid 2 here.
(otherwise 3)

The way I count losers this hand has 6.5 losers - not five, which I consider crazy -
You hold x K x x x K x K Q J x x x, in support of .

2S mini splinter. This is why I play this, yes?

I think it's likely we can assume we are playing this: http://www.ebu.co.uk...system-file.pdf (Page 12)

This gives us this options:

Quote

  • A jump in the suit opened, shows a strong 6-card suit and around 16-18 HCP, encouraging but not forcing after a response at the one level (forcing to game after a two level response); with an even stronger hand you can jump to game but maybe you should have opened the suit at the two level.
  • Jump support for partner – 4-card support and the equivalent of around 16-18 HCP, taking distribution into account. Encouraging but not forcing; again, you can bid game with a better hand still
  • A jump in a new suit – the strongest option – at least a 4-card suit, at least 19 HCP (or the equivalent in a shapely hand) over a one level response (16-19 HCP over a two level response), forcing to game
  • A reverse bid in a new suit, 16+ HCP or compensating distribution, forcing for one round at least

Or just 2H obviously.

If you are gonna give up a 2 spade natural bid I would rather use it for 3 card unspecified minisplinter, for 5431 and 6331 with 3 card support that are very tough to bid on natural methods (I mean from very good 14 to 19 or so). You have plenty of time to unfold what you've got at this level.

Why play this if you play Gazilli or a 2nt gadget? The mini spl is far more useful. Why do we have to assume we are playing an EBU designated system? Where and when wad this stated? If it was not and it was not, why bring it up now?
