Whenever I bid 2H partner is 4315. Whenever I bid 3C partner is 4522. I think it depends on your style, I would bid 2H since I think it is right for partner to be doubling rather than overcalling (or passing) with (54)22 hand types. I also think tactically it's better, people compete over 2M more than they compete over 3C, and it will be a lot harder to double 3C than 2M (not that getting doubled is ever that likely here but if LHO has 5 clubs they can double 3C sometimes).

Like even when pard has 4315 they might bid 3D over 2H lol. however if he has 5413 they are more likely to find selling out even with 9 diamonds.

One more obvious point but even when we have the club fit 3C might go down, so 2H has more upside there as it's more likely to go plus when right imo. We have 12 HCP but our hand is crappy and could easily lose 5 tricks.

Guess 3 = 10, 3 = 9. Anything could be right, but if partner is 4441 we may as wll play in our 44 fit.

Which is why I passed, hoping for a 4423 or thereabouts across and aiming at 1 down. That wasn't very good as pard held
