The finals of the 2013-2014 Solomon Teams will be broadcast on BBO Vugraph this Tuesday night Nov. 4 at 7:30 pm Eastern Standard Time (New York Time). My team somehow made the finals this year, so you can all watch and have a few laughs at my expense.

My team is myself (Art Korth) and Meyer Kotkin (Meyer won the Wernher Pairs in Toronto in 2011 and placed 2nd and 3rd in the 10K team events in Dallas earlier this year), Jane Segal and John Marks, and Andy Kaufman and Doug Dye. Our opponents are Pat & Vince Civale (runners up as a pair in the Masters Mixed some years back) and Arnie Fisher (silver medalist, World Senior Teams last month) and Marc Labovitz. The match will actually be played at Jane Segal's apartment just outside of Philadelphia. All of us along with the Vugraph operators are having dinner together immediately before the match.

I am the coordinator of this event. In the last few years, I have been running the Vugraph. Can't do that this year since my team is in the finals.

My team was a bit of an underdog to have made the finals, but we are not a big underdog to win the event. We have had several very close matches against the Civale team in the past. In the round robin segment of this event, we split two 12 board matches equally (20 VPs each).

So join us and let me know what you think after the match is over.

Andy Kaufman? didn't Jim Carrey make a film about him?

Very good luck Art, if I can figure out what time that is I might be able to watch.

Trust me. This Andy Kaufman is not nearly as funny (or as strange) as the one you are thinking about. But this Andy Kaufman is a much better bridge player.

Or maybe he actually is, but he is fooling you in disguise!

Yeah, the famous Andy Kaufman was well known for being unrecognizable when he got into character, and many believe he faked his death.
