MP, best hand South, Instant, pro GIB 30

Not sure what possessed North to think that the hand would play any better in Hearts than in Diamonds. And he only needs 6 tricks in Diamonds, but 8 in Hearts.

Not sure what makes West think that he is worth a penalty double of 2H but not of 2S.

South has to take a risk that West has a sound double of Hearts, suggesting (Bayes) more likely that North has only 4 Hearts for the 2H bid. But still a bit of a guess.

Bet West wishes with hindsight that he had just passed out 2H.

I have never known GIB not to transfer with a weak hand and a 5 card major. Surely you should correct 2H to 2S and not give W the chance to pass 2H out.

Point.

An argument in favour of passing perhaps is that we have yet to be doubled in it, and 2S may be no better (and may be doubled when 2H might not be)

I wonder whether West thought he was making a penalty double, or simply making an "informational" double, showing a maximum passed hand with "biddable" hearts (five of them or four good ones), so that East could make an informed decision. West later doesn't double 2 because his spades are not "biddable".

Yes give West Gib bonehead award for not passing 2H with 4 nice hearts and a partner's (correction) who's overcalled whos opened 1N . Take the plus.

It was RHO not CHO who opened 1N but the point remains valid.
