Locked out of chat! after looking at ACBL CC, Can't chat

I use a MacBook Air, and recently after I review my partner's ACBL full convention card and return to play at a table, I can no longer chat. The cursor appears in the chat window, but I am unable to type in the chat line. I have to log out and back in. If partner has a generic cc, no problem. What could be causing this?
