MP, best hand South, Instant, pro GIB 30

Well, I had my 1N opener for a change (just about).

My subsequent 2D bid may be unsound, but whatever. What's with the 2H bid? What is his aversion to Diamonds?

Again, it is suggested in the explanation that I may have as few as 4D to bid 2D (nonsense, of course), but even then why pull from a known 4-3 fit (at worst) into the complete unknown?

Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

I think your 2 bid is clear, not unsound. The description of 2 should certainly require 5 diamonds and should deny the possibility of any other 5card suit.

Given the description of 2, it does seem that North can't quite decide whether this is constructive or simply running. Would he make this call with xxxx, xxxx, x, xxxx? Or, at matchpoints try to get to a major with Qxxx, Qxxx, xxxx, x knowing that he can fall back on 3 if unsuccessful?

No one would bid 2 with 4. More likely to have 6 which isn't even considered.

This needs to be fixed if NT opener freely bids a suit it should show 5-cards.

Sarcasm is a state of mind
