Yes, I'm a Jack light for my 2NT opening, but I get tired of playing 4-2 or 4-1 club fits at the 1 level when I can make 9 tricks opposite partner's 6-card-major-but-no-high-card hand.
Putting aside my "psyche," why does North drive to slam with possessing only 10 HCP and the knowledge that we have no fit? Our max is 31 HCP; and where are the tricks going to come from? 4♦ is a fairly aggressive call, since 6♦ is only likely to make if partner has a fit plus few wasted values in his/her announced ♠ suit. Once partner denies a ♦ fit, isn't it time for North to back off and hope that partner can bring home 4NT?
And, out of curiosity, what is the significance of the system note pegging North with 11 HCP and "12 total points?" Does that refer to a potential weak doubleton or a singleton even though the final contract will be in NT?
