I'd be interested to know why North responds to 5NT, a quantitative invitation, with anything other than 6NT. North holds very close to an absolute minimum in terms of high cards for its previous bidding; and surely any bid other than 6NT must be meant to be encouraging, on the order of an advance cue bid. Also, if North has decided that its hand does, in fact, have features that justify encouraging South to bid 7, why does it bid 6♦, which the system notes say shows 3+♦? I'd have thought that 6♠ would have been a more accurate description of the hand's strength. Or is North actually declining to choose between 6NT and 7NT and instead looking to play slam in my once-bid ♦ suit holding 2 small?
