GIB Basic, didn't finish the hand because of the final contract (didn't read the description).

Why is GIB counting points in my short suit to bid 2, and why isn't 4 a splinter?

GIB doesn't open a weak 2 with a side 4-card major so it makes no sense for its jumps to be splinters.

Assuming GIB wouldn't bid 2S over 2H with just 4 cards (and one would hope not!), that's somewhat of a non-sequitur, right? As in the OP you might want to show 3-card support for partner's spades, so a splinter is ideal since it's so descriptive (shows exactly a maximum 3631 or 3640).

I'd say 4m as splinter makes more sense on that auction than a "rebiddable" second suit.

BTW, that is one massive 2H opening. Surely 1H is better?

Yes, I would bid 1 if I was at a normal game and not testing out GIB. Just like the hand below (I would open 1 at the club):

Now with GIB 'knowing' we have a 12-card fit, why the heck isn't it bidding on, especially with shortness and unlikely mirrored distribution?

Because he didn't want to push EW into a making slam?
