I would pass. Double could work, if partner bids 3 via Lebensohl I would have to pass then and hope we haven't been doubled in the meantime.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

x

The hand is just too good to pass with so many different possibilities.
The x allows us to "win" whenever or has weak or strong and a minor or heart length
weak intermediate (im one of those holdouts that keeps 3h there as intermediate)
or strong. Pass has the benefit of never getting us in deep trouble but seems to
be a poor MP strategy with some reasonable application at IMPS. Too difficult to
bid 2n with no spade stop T9xx might appeal to me in a desparate sort of way. 3C
is far too often going to end the bidding and seems not only unilateral but not
even a coveted contract at MP (oh and did I mention the lack of length?).

IMHO x = 7 pass = 5 2n = 3 3c = 2 Nothing appeals too much preempts work keep using them

If you are going to reopen, 2NT is probably best. Reopening with a double is almost certain to get a heart bid from partner, and it will be difficult to impossible to get to the right contract after that start.

It is unlikely that the opponents can run their spades assuming that they can be run, as the suit is probably blocked or is about to become blocked. You may not even get a spade lead.

I'm a paper tiger, so I'll go for 2NT. There's lots of ways we could stop the suit - I'm rooting for Tx with partner.

IMO 2N = 10, Pass = 9, Double = 7, 3 = 5.

If JEC is at your table, I think pass has a lot going for it. JEC usually has the nuts for his very strong and disciplined preempts, and partner couldn't act with shortness.

On this shape and with no spade stopper for NT, I have to pass. Give me a 5 card suit and I'll bid it.
