IMPs dealer N

We didn't get this perfectly right, as we ended in 6 rather than 6N, meaning that a heart lead could have been awkward if they were 5-2 with A over the K, but they didn't find it, and we picked up vs 3N at the other table.

Depending on methods it could be very hard to get to six no trumps. North needs to discover that south has great hearts and south may be worried about spades - especially if north has had to rebid no trumps (perhaps to show a great hand with six clubs after 1C 1H; 3NT). The auction may just get too high too quickly to find out about the relevant features. Our methods have too many gadgets to be useful but we would just be guessing.

Our auction was vaguely interesting but specific to us.

1-1
2N (GF unbal)-3(forced unless very shapely)
3N(clubs only)-4(the hand must be slammy if partner chooses this sequence)
4 (ambiguous, is this xxx and 7+ clubs, with 6-3 he'd rebid 3 not 3N, or is it a shortage)-4(KC if hearts agreed, cue if clubs agreed, IDC which)
6(clarifying the heart shortage)

Partner and I agreed that both interpretations of 4 were reasonable and his 6 bid was a good bid to clarify it, even if he couldn't be 100% sure we had the spade guard.

1c
1h
2d reverse forcing to at least 2n
2h 5th heart no power limitation
2s 4th suit but still forcing only to 2n
4n (quant)
5c slam interest
5h cue
5s dia control not 100% sure about spade control
6n 2nd round spade control would show another feature with spade ace

getting to 6c pretty good but iffy if you never knew about spade control

Really depends how confident partner was that I wouldn't bid an ambiguous 4 without a spade control, or that I meant it as a spade cue all along. The 4 was bid in tempo, the 4 that preceded it wasn't.

1-1
3NT-4
4-4NT
5x-6

I don't see 6NT either on this auction as dummy could hit with 7 clubs and A+Q wich would make 6NT hopeles on a diamond lead (actually it would require RHO to have 4 hearts and A and read the ending)

With artificial methods:

1-1 (transfer)
2NT-3 (asks)
3(long minor)-4
4...

Now there is a point to play 6NT as the 2NT rebid is mostly on power, not on long suit.

At pairs I would bid 1-1-3NT-6NT. At IMPs, Fluffy's auction looks about right, but it is possibly too technical.

Exploration is overrated. Once we dismiss the likelihood of a grand slam, we just want to bid a small slam with minimal information leakage.

Depends if you're happy in 6N opposite AQJ, x, QJx, AKQ109x, admittedly they haven't led the right suit yet, and you can rule out AKQ 7th and 2 bullets.

To recognise 6 NT as superiour, means, you are not only able to bid your cards, but additional the process of card playing - not bidding.
I never have seen any judgement or rule or bidding system, which will be able to achieve this. :)
