MP, best hand South.

But for the fact that 2D expressed all of East's values, and he is not in the pass-out seat, and that he has no trumps, I have a modicum of sympathy for East, particularly as it is MP. Maybe he has a right to expect a bit of help from West for his freebid.

Never mind West's appalling strength and sterile distribution, he prefers to show a 4 card Spade suit with only 3 of them, already on notice that it is vanishingly unlikely that East will have support, and in the process conceals primary support for Diamonds. Sheesh.

2 looks like reverse and fixed in next version to show appropriate for reverse values:

so 2 here would be -> -- 5+ ; 4+ ; 21- HCP; 16-22 total points

So now, instead of pass, over 2 ( based more on 12-22 range ) GIB-W would bid 3 -> 4+ ; 5-8 total points

That is good news. It still stretches credulity to fathom how West could ever have considered 2S a sensible bid even if not expecting a reverse from East. Suppose that the minors had been reversed and it had started

E....S....W....N

1D..1N..P....P
2C...2H..??

Would West now still bid 2S on a 3-3-3-4 hand with 2 Queens and a Jack?

I may be being a little unfair on GIB, who probably would not have bid the South hand the same way. Some might consider it an impossible auction by South.

It wouldn't as it shows 9+ minor cards and unlikely fit elsewhere to exist and while partner is in 12-22 range it needs 9+TP to proceed.

And this time 2 would be 3- , so West wouldn't be able to deny fit and poke in other suit.

I thought that in the original hand, East had shown 9+ minor suit cards. OK, the explanation of 2D only shows 4+ 4+ in minors, but with only 4-4 it opens 1D, yes?

Actually for both minors openings it was 4+4+ ( only after 1NT direct overcall ) and it's corrected in next version. If overcall 1NT is in balancing seat, lengths are fine.

So if it's reverse would show more points + length 5+4+. if it's lower by rank would show only length 5+4+.
