In the Robot Tournament #3322, board #8, I bid 3NT but the GIB corrected it to 4 diamonds. I eventually played in 5 clubs. Although I made 5 clubs, 3NT would have resulted in a better score. Do you know why the GIB bid 4 diamonds?
Thank you.

Here is your hand.
4♦ should be a cuebid and shape showing with slammish in ♣,very good.

I rate this hand as just a bit unlucky. You need to be confident of 9 running tricks on this auction when, between you, you hold only a single guard (which cannot be held up) against a suit that has been strongly bid and supported by the opponents and which you expect to be knocked out on opening lead. And then you have to have 10 running tricks in order to outscore 5m at matchpoints.
That happens here, but neither partner can know that during the auction. So it is down to whether 3N is a mere suggestion, on which North is consulted, or whether South is allowed to take all decision away from North.
I don't have a strong opinion on it. North certainly has some undisclosed shape, but not a lot. But certainly cannot help in the Spade suit (which on another day he might),

Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.
Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mstr-mnding) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.
"Gentlemen, when the barrage lifts." 9th battalion, King's own Yorkshire light infantry,
2000 years earlier: "morituri te salutant"
"I will be with you, whatever". Blair to Bush, precursor to invasion of Iraq

The explanation says that 4♦ is natural, not a cuebid, with the same 12-16 total points that were already shown the previous round.
According to the sequences in this hand,I can confirm that Gib N bid 4♦ voluntarily over 3nt,it will be a shape showing bid with extra values as we know,so I can simply say it is slammish in fact even though 4♥ with Gib's explanations.
