I like 4 by North rather than 3 to increase the pressure, but the cause of the problem here is more at the other table. Missing game in an unobstructed auction on the E/W cards is quite poor. They have 25 hcp with stoppers everywhere, lots of quick tricks, and a nine-card diamond fit. 3NT by East is just cold and either 5m contract is good too.

The player with the 6 card D suit passed a 2NT re-bid? That is never going to be winning action at imps.

The 1H over call is very soft for imps, but not without merit facing a passed hand. I think N should have bid 4H and get it over with, what is this D bid all about?

Guilty. My excuse, such as it is, is that 2NT shows 16-18 in our system -- we play mini NT in 1st and 2nd seats -- so I had a failure of nerve. (We play a Walsh style, so my plan was to say 3 over a 1NT rebid to show this hand, but over 2NT it would have shown a different hand.) But that's no excuse, really. I'm going to go sit in the corner for a while.

Well, if 2NT shows 16-18, then East underbid, in addition to your misbid.

I thought about making that argument, but I don't trust myself not to be resulting. I'm fine with taking the blame for this one.
