I have played the quick game of 4 hands several times and I think the scoring method used is simplistic and rather inane. One recxeives a positive score only if one scores a plus results. Sacrifices are punished even if one gets less negative results. The scoring should reflect the accumulative results and the poosition one is in after each hand according to all others playing. Scrap the party bridge scoring. No serious bridge player is interested in party bridge.

If you are talking about 4 deal bridge, that is a variant of rubber bridge. Successful sacrifices are still negative scores, just less negative than the score one would have obtained without the sacrifice. In the long term, such sacrifices are worthwhile, even if they are still negative scores.

If one wants to play duplicate rather than party bridge, there are plenty of opportunities available for one to do so.

If only non-serious players play it, WTP?

But if you are referring to Chicago, it is the most serious game in town.

No, he's obviously referring to BBO's Play Bridge - 4 Hands game. You play 4 random hands with 3 robots, you're scored on total points, and there's a top 10 leaderboard. There's no login, you just enter your initials if you make the top 10 -- it's like a video arcade machine.

It's meant as a really quick diversion, a little intro to BBO, not a serious game.

P.S. to David1949: Welcome to the forums, and please notice that we have separate areas for discussion of BBO versus bridge in general. I've moved this thread to the BBO-specific area.
