6N was obviously a preemptive move by GIB.

Wouldn't everyone play 6NT there as bid 7♥ if you don't have ♠A?

It is one of those simulation things. GIB thinks that with the 19+ HCPs (!) which opener has promised, 6NT and 6♥ make most of the time, but it might be necesary to protect ♣K against the lead.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
